I was talking with a great friend about about starting my job search process. She said before you begin you have to listen to my friend Merete's podcast. I quickly went to the website, listened to one podcast, and was hooked. I downloaded both the "How to Prepare for a Job Interview" and the "Salary Negotiations" Freebies. They set me up for success. I was intentional about the jobs I applied for, and received three interviews, along with an opportunity to create my own position. I was offered two positions, and selected the one that best aligned with my values, goals, and salary. The biggest when was the negotiations. While they gave me their top salary, I followed Merete's advice to ask for $10,000 over. They met me in the middle and I got an additional $5,000. I was able to negotiate my start date, the equipment I wanted, some additional professional development, and the potential for a new title and more pay after my first year. You have to take her freebies and use them. Thanks Merete.

I enjoyed working 1:1 with Merete. Her guidance and support were invaluable as I navigated a tumultuous career transition amid the pandemic. She provided me with tools and support that gave me the confidence to begin my job search. I am so grateful that I got the chance to work closely with a fellow woman of color who gets it. 

I came to Merete because I was looking for a change in my career. Being in government, I was looking to the private sector for my next opportunity. One of my improvement areas is talking about myself and my achievements. I have accomplished a lot in my life an career, but I didn't know how to craft it into a narrative. Merete has provided amazing advice especially when it comes to speaking to your managers and supervisors. After speaking to Merete, I was able to advocate for what I wanted at my office, which has allowed me to work in a more supportive environment where I feel more valued. My family has recently relocated to a new area. Given everything that is going on due to the pandemic, it made me reevaluate my work/life balance. I wanted to find something closer to home. It has been a while since I put myself out there in the work world, so I wanted some guidance and support on how to make those next steps. I had been using my resume/cover letter format I created in college and needed to really revamp myself on paper. Merete was able to help give constructive feedback and offer specific suggestions on how to improve my resume and cover letters. She was able to highlight the skills I have developed over my career thus far and how to articulate how those skills translate to any role I looking to pursue. I was burnt out at a job where I was undervalued and overworked until Merete gave me the confidence to move on and put my needs first. Not only did I find a remote position that better suited my lifestyle, strengths and interests, but I got the job offer! Merete encouraged me advocate for myself and negotiate for a higher starting salary and the counteroffer was even more money than I had asked for. I can't tell you how strong and proud that made me feel, and I owe so much of that to Merete's resources, encouragement and support.

In the midst of my job search I came across a role I had dreamed in having. In meeting only 80% of the qualifications, I felt underqualified in applying. Meeting with Merete gave me the confidence to pursue this position and she gave me the necessary tools to effectively market myself. As a result, I was offered a role two levels higher than the one I had applied for and I thank Merete for her guidance.
